My Art Work

I’ve been painting off and on for about 15 years - mostly as just a hobby. I have shown work in various local art shows and have sold a few pieces here and there. I focus primarily on landscapes and wildlife paintings done in acrylic. I especially enjoy painting birds. Many of the scenes I paint seem to be slowly disappearing from our environment. I feel that this is my way of preserving those special scenes.

I recently had some prints made of a few of my pieces and hope to have more made soon. Currently I don’t have a dedicated web site to show my art work, but its coming!

Here are a few of my pieces:

"Passing Through" - Mallards

"Heading South" - Canada Geese

"Winter Farm"

"Spring Time" - Eastern Bluebirds

Thanks for alerting me to your blog, Alan. Lovely stuff. I like the feel of "Winter Farm."

I like the look of bird bottles, too. Is yours safe from climbing predators such as snakes and raccoons? I wonder if the side of the house might be a safer location than a deck support?

Gorgeous template and colors for your blog. I'm stuck with one of the humdrum ones because I host my blog on my own domain. Blaaa.

Keep up the good work, and thanks for stopping in!

Julie,
Thanks for your nice comments about my art and the blog layout. I just recently started blogging so please stop by from time-to-time! I hope it becomes a learning experience for me as well as others.

…yes, you do make a good point about where the bird bottle is located. I originally was going to attach it to the house but instead mounted it to the deck for better viewing. We have a cover on the deck and the bottle is attached to one of the post that goes up to the roof (approx 8’ high). I’ve been looking at various baffles that will fit on a 6X6 post. If I can’t find or make one I may relocate it back to the side of the house. Last year was the first year I put out and kept a close eye on it and didn’t have any problems with predators. This year I don’t want to take any chances! I currently have two other bluebird boxes located on my property and they both have predator guards on them.

Ah, good. I figured you had it covered. You might have some success wrapping the post in sheet metal--like thin galvanized tin. Black rat snakes are going to be the big problem. But a determined 'coon can wrap himself around anything--and the square shape will only help him get purchase.

Bear in mind that I am a freak when it comes to protecting against predators. Have been running bluebird boxes since 1982 and have seen the worst, and I'm determined not to let it happen on my watch!

Thanks Julie - It's unfortunate that we have to learn the hard way sometimes. As you have pointed out, its more to it than just putting up a bird house and walking away...we must be responsible landlords!

Alan, these are beautiful! What a nice job you do. I like the Winter Farm also and your bluebird painting looks like it should be on the cover of Bird Watcher's Digest!

Alan, I like the Spring Painting best. Don't stop painting! I have a son in law who is so talented as an artist and he looked closely at the feather art I sent him a few months ago. He sees that before the painting is laid down, a lacquer-type base is applied. I'm clueless, but love the feather art, too. (Joe, my son in law, is the one who did my caricature on GodWoman.blogspot.com)

Alan,

I can't believe I missed this part of your blog for so long.

You are fantastic. I'm particularly in love with the winter scenes. You could have a Christmas card line.

Keep painting and showing!

Mary

I am glad I found your blog - beautiful artwork. I love them all. There is a warm feel to each one. The cloud/sky in the geese painting - it's perfect. The farm scene - it's nice because I've seen so many farms (I live in Wisconsin!) and that scene is so believeable. The bluebirds...we have bluebird houses like that in our yard and I've seen that scene played out every spring - great job!

Checking in, again, to see if there are any new additions to your art collection. PLEASE do another one similar to the bluebirds. I get such pleasure out of that painting!
